Titans 411 Feb. 16th

Seniors…  Please make sure you see your senior English teacher to verify the spelling of your name for your diploma.  If you do not have an English course on your schedule, you must see Mr. DeVito during lunch or in between classes to verify the spelling of your name.

Volusia County Life Guards will be set up at a table in the courtyard during lunch today to meet students that would be interested in becoming a life Guard this spring and summer. Please stop by and check out their table tomorrow.

Interact Speech Club will meet today during lunch in room 1A-305. Please bring your lunch.

Science Olympiad will meet this Friday.  Team members interested in competing in the Physics Olympics should attend the meeting as well as anyone who wants to work on their builds.  Members are encouraged to bring donations for "Pasta for Pennies."

Discovery Elementary is in need of volunteers this Friday, Feb. 17th from 5:30-8pm for their camp reading night… Just show up on Feb. 17th and report to the media center. Volunteers are also needed for Debary Elementary’s Read Across America Day Family Celebration on March 2nd from 5:45-7:15pm…contact Kelli Donlevy at 386-575-4230ext 42196.

Academy group & JROTC Group photos will be taken this Friday Feb. 17th during lunch in the auditorium. All academy & JROTC students should report promptly to the auditorium at 11:05 am on this day. See your Academy director for more information.

Titans come out and support UHS Art students….Kayla Miller, Bailey Walters, Christiana DeLucco & Jordan McCurdy as their artwork has been selected to be exhibited at the opening reception for the advanced Placement studio art exhibit on Friday, Feb. 17th from 5-7pm at the ArtHaus Gallery in Port Orange: 3840 Ridgewood Ave 386-767-0076

FSA ELA Writing for 9th graders is on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 10th graders is on Wednesday, March 1st, and retakes is scheduled for Thursday, March 2nd.  Students you will be receiving notification from your English teachers.  See Mrs.  LaMondie in the media center with any questions

Commander Patrick Reardon will be here on March 6th to present information regarding admission to the US Naval Academy. Students with a 3.5 GPA or higher in grades 9 – 11 who are interested in the Naval Academy can sign up to hear his presentation. See Mrs. Marracino in the guidance office if interested. 

2017 Grad Bash tickets are currently on sale in room 3-200 during lunch. You must be a graduating senior, have a current student ID and have no outstanding obligations to purchase a Grad Bash Ticket. Grad Bash Tickets are $90. The last day to purchase a grad bash ticket will be March 3rd.

UHS 2017 Prom will be held on Saturday, April 22nd at the Daytona Beach Hilton from 7-11pm. This year’s theme is “Under the Sea” Tickets will go on sale Monday, Feb 13th during lunch in room 3-200. Prom tickets are $75 until April 1st. On April 1st the ticket price will increase to $85. Tickets can be purchased by juniors & seniors with a current student ID and no outstanding obligations. Formal attire is required, adequate coverage for ladies is a must. If you have any attire related questions, please see Ms. McCann in room 1C-310 or Mrs. Pearsall in 3-200. Your ticket includes food stations serving a variety of food, photo booth pictures and a goody bag with prom evening souvenirs. 

NHS is sponsoring ACT/SAT tutoring after school to juniors and seniors every Monday Tuesday and Wednesday from 3-4:30. Space is limited; sign up in 4-211 at lunch.

Host families are needed for an international exchange student for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year.  The student will be between the ages of 15-18 and will stay with each host family for 3-5 months.  The host family provides meals, a bed, as well as friendship, understanding and genuine interest to share our American way of life.  The students speak English; have insurance and their own spending money.  For more information about hosting a Rotary Youth Exchange student, see Mrs. Marracino during lunch.

Also, any student interested in competing for The Young American Creative Patriotic Art Award…this is open to any student in grades 9 – 12.  The top prize is $10,000.  See Mrs. Marracino for details.

Congratulations to the boys tennis team for their victory over Pine Ridge HS. The Titans were led by Nate Darch, Ryan Kenis, Bradley Sisk, Tim Cauldwell and Connor Williams.

Donate blood today and save three lives. Get free pizza, snacks and a long sleeve shirt. With your teachers permission you can come as a walk in to the auditorium lobby if you’re 17 years or older. Give the gift of life on this special day.

 “Our very own Launch Federal Credit Union is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during lunch and accounts can be started with as little as $30.  Account holders in the school are also eligible for several prize drawings throughout the year such as iPads, laptops, and gift cards. The school’s ATM has been relocated and is now fully functioning in the main office lobby.  Also, accounts can be open with Launch Federal Credit Union with as little as $5. They office is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during lunch.  

Congratulations to the Girls Wrestling Team for winning the 5 Star Conference this past weekend.  Congratulations to the JV boys wrestling team for winning the 5 Star Conference this past weekend.  Congratulations to the Varsity wrestling team for being the 5 Star conference runner-up.

Titans are you interested in pursuing athletics at the collegiate level. Than plan to attend the athletic recruiting workshop hosted by UHS’ athletic department this Thursday, Feb 9th at 7:30pm in our auditorium. This workshop is for both students and parents, in hopes of providing information that will help you pursue your dreams of competing at the college level.  Titan booster club will meet at 6:30pm and the recruiting workshop will begin at 7:30pm this Thursday, Feb. 9th in our auditorium. Titans!  It’s that time of year again for our 3rd annual STEM 5k.  If you bought your 2016 red out t-shirt, your 5K registration is FREE! The STEM Heart and Sole 5K is to be held on February 15th at 5:30. Preregistration is at 5pm. Registration is $30 for individuals, $25 each for a team of 4 and $20 for faculty/staff. The black light party will follow the run from 7:30-9. Come join us, compete, and have fun!

The following goodies will be sold this week from Feb. 8th thru Feb. 14th in honor of Valentine Day:

  • Starting Wednesday 2/8  see any swimmer to purchase your valentine lollipop grams. These grams will be delivered on Valentine’s Day.
  • Academy of Finance is selling a dozen Krispy Kreme glazed donuts for $7. If you would like to pre order a box see any AOF member and preorder a dozen for $6.
  • SGA will be selling cup of noodle soup for $1 in the courtyard
  • Culinary will be selling whoopee pies
  • NOW club & Innovation dance team will be selling baked goods
  • NHS will be selling fresh roses
  • FFA will be selling wooden roses

Key Club is selling Glow Stick Lollipops this week. They also come with Pop Rocks. Give one to the person who sets your heart aglow. Give them to someone who rocks. Or buy one for yourself because, let’s face it, you rock.  See a Key Club member or Ms. DeBellis in 1C-211 to buy a glowstick lollipop!”

Today is club photo day… if you are a member of a club you should have received a pass to report to the auditorium at a specific time to take your club photo. If you have not received your pass it is your responsibility to see your club sponsor to get your pass.Seniors will be called for their senior panoramic the last 20 minutes of 7th period. Seniors are to report to their 7th period class. We will call you via the PA Announcer.

NHS Spirit Night is this evening from 4-10 at Chilli’s.  Check out the flyer on the Titan 411 bulletin board outside of the main lobby…take a picture of the flyer and show it at chilli’s, NHS will receive a percentage of your bill donated to Relay for Life!

Are you interested in traveling to Europe? Than plan to attend the Educational Tours informational meeting tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 4th in the lecture hall at 10am. You will receive details on this year’s trip, and future trips.

The Daytona Beach Half Marathon is in need of volunteers! Volunteer are needed are between  1 and 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, and between 5:30 a.m. and noon Sunday, Feb. 5. The 2017 race takes place on Feb. 5, and volunteer positions range from course marshals to packet pickup to manning a water station. As a thank you for your time, all volunteers will receive breakfast at the event, as well as a free entry to the Marine Science Center.
