This advanced course provides integrated laboratory experiences and real-life applications in the essential processes of life. The content includes the nature of science, matter, energy, biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, levels of organization and classification, structure, function and reproduction of plants, animals, and microorganisms, behavior of organisms, interrelationships among organisms, biological selection, adaptations and changes through time. Laboratory investigations will include the use of the scientific method, measurement, observations, predictions, reasoning and problem solving skills. Preserved animal studies may be a part of this course. For students entering 9th grade in 2012-2013, thirty percent of their final grade will be based on the Biology I End of Course exam. Students will be required to take the exam in order to be awarded credit.
