A service to yourself and your country
ROTC students are taught many of the qualities needed to be successful in the military. However that doesn’t necessarily mean enlistment is no longer a possibility for general high school students. Armed forces careers can extend from medical, technical, design, or communications.
Second quarter slump
Some students swear by the fact that the second grading period is the easiest. However for others it can be the most head-turning 38 days of the year.
Titan Philharmonic takes the stage
On the night of Wed., Dec. 13, University’s Titan Philharmonic tuned their instruments, lowered their bows, and took the stage to perform at their annual winter concert. Joined by a collective of younger musicians (fifth graders from an assortment of local elementary schools and students from River Springs Middle School), the Titan Philharmonic played an assorted arrangement of holiday-themed tunes, including Mannheim Steamroller’s arrangement of Celebration, Brian Balmages’s It Takes One To Tango, and the uber-popular Transiberian Orchestra arrangement of Wizards of Winter.
Keeping it local for the holidays
As the holidays quickly approach many houses are left vacant by their owners who are traveling for the holidays. However, there is no need to envy those who travel. Living where you do there are plenty of holiday activities to participate in and magical places to visit.
Run hide fight
In the early hours of Monday, Nov. 28, students at Ohio State University woke up to an alarming tweet sent out by the institution's Emergency Management Twitter. Consisting of only 86 characters, the tweet instructed students to stay alert and to be watchful of an active shooter that was prowling the campus. A burst of national outcry quickly swept the country, only to be heightened as soon as fatal details were revealed about the situation—shortly after intentionally crashing his car into a throng of pedestrians, a young man was reported to have wielded a butcher-knife around campus and directly attacked eleven students and faculty members. Within a minute after the initial attack, an on-campus police officer fired at the suspect when he refused to drop his weapon.
